I have been partially sponsored! HOORAY! I still need $40/month to cover food expenses. Will you help me reach my goal?
My parents and grandmother hired a man to kill me for only $200.
Meet Abdu
I was a sickly baby, yet my parents were unable to pay for medical treatment due to extreme poverty. When I was 6 years old I developed chicken pox. In Uganda, some people believe chickenpox is a curse from God.
My parents and grandmother hired a man to kill me for only $200. The man placed me in a large bag, and I fainted and lost consciousness. The man thought I had died, so he dug a shallow grave and buried me. Three days later a woman was picking herbs and heard me crying. She went to the police, and they were able to rescue me from the grave.
It had rained during the time I was buried, and I was coughing up mud. I was also covered in bruises and was in critical condition. The hospital staff were able to save me and nursed me back to health. My family was arrested, and to this day they are in prison. I then went to live with Alex at the orphanage. I am happy here, but I struggle with guilt and shame and also have difficulty trusting others. I do dream of becoming a doctor in the future.
